Hello and welcome to my blog! Thanks for visiting.

My name is Kelly, and this blog is a space where I take the time to share my thoughts and experiences related to living a lifestyle that allows me to do my part to conserve resources and preserve the planet. I live in Portland, Oregon, with my husband Josh and am the Communications Manager for Portland Farmers Market*.

I started this blog in 2008 after I graduated from college as a way to share the fun things I was up to. It continued to serve as a lifestyle blog until I realized I wanted to shift gears. Thanks to a client of the advertising agency I worked for at the time, I developed a strong interest in the environment and living a more sustainable lifestyle. So, I renamed the blog “Kelly’s Sustainable Life” as a way to share my thoughts and practices with others.

I am well aware that the word “sustainable” is overused and misused to the point where it’s meaning has been lost. The original definition of the word is “to be able to support, uphold and confirm” but with an increase in environmental awareness, it is most often used to describe a lifestyle that is focused on conserving resources and preserving the environment. As much as it is overused, I still believe it is an accurate and succinct way to describe the way I live my life because I want my lifestyle to be attainable by everyone every day, and not something just for those who have the time and financial resources.

The content of my blog is in no way meant to be judgmental. I am the first to admit I am not a perfect steward of the environment. I have written about my efforts to eat less meat, create less trash and drive less, yet that does not mean I do all of those things all of the time.

On a similar note, I’d also like to say that my thoughts and opinions change from time to time. I consider this a necessary and natural consequence of keeping an open mind. This blog is intended to provide a semi-permanent point in time snapshot and manifestation of the various thoughts running through my head and deemed worthy of sharing. Please note that any thoughts and opinions expressed in out-of-date posts may not be the same, nor even similar, to those I may hold today.

I encourage you to browse the content of my blog and comment if you find something that inspires you, interests you, or even something that you disagree with. I’m open to suggestions and providing help whenever possible because we’re all in this together – protecting the environment is something we all need to do together.
