Our First House Anniversary!

You know the saying “time flies when you’re having fun”? Well that statement certainly rings true when it comes to our house, because as of today, March 17, it has already been one year since we moved in!

We love our little house. It’s the perfect size for us and it has been so fun to work on it and make it our own. Sometimes I forget just how much we have done with it, but when I look at some of these before photos, I realize that we have accomplished a lot in 12 months! Here’s a quick breakdown of everything we’ve done (in no particular order):

  • Removed two trees in the backyard
  • Replaced our old windows
  • Refinished the floors
  • Painted the walls
  • Painted the trim and doors
  • Built a shed
  • Cleaned up the backyard in preparation for gardens
  • Installed a french drain system in the back yard to help with drainage

Now that we’ve had some time to get used to our home, we’re excited to get started on the next major upgrade: our backyard. Ever since we laid eyes on our house, we knew the backyard had incredible potential, and we’re happy that we are at the point where we can start to make into something great. Our first step is to prep the ground so we can install raised beds and start the garden I’ve always wanted. We also have plans to install rain barrels and add a fire pit on the side of the house.

I’ll be sure to share our progress as we get started, and as always I’d love to hear some advice you may have for backyard renovations and garden building!

But for now, I am going to leave you with some photos to demonstrate how far our house has come over the last year:

Refinished hardwood floors
Painted lots of walls
Gave our overgrown flower beds a much needed face lift
Planted some veggies

Harvested some veggies
Painted and fixed things
Hosted backyard parties

Had some big trees removed from the backyard
Built a shed

Upgraded our windows

Painted and weatherized

  2. Thank you, Bob! We are very proud of the work we've done on our house and in the last year we've done a lot more work so our house is looking better and better. Perhaps it's time to write a recap of year two!
